Birmingham-based Sports Key provides a platform for individual development, particularly for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, and supports a healthier, more cohesive and active community.

It currently delivers:

1. Community sports programmes enabling accessible and affordable fitness for underserved communities to increase levels of physical activity amongst communities most inactive.
2. A 12-month youth enterprise offer for young people at risk of falling into the criminal justice system which aims to increase participants employment prospects through a series mentoring, skills development workshops, volunteering and employment opportunities (as sessional workers with Sports Key’s community sports programme).
3. A community of practice to engage a network of black leaders from diverse sectors and facilitate capacity building workshops around sharing best practice, governance and funding.

Rise Up is a youth employment charity supporting marginalised young people aged 16-30 from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds across Greater Manchester.

It offers a tailored 12-week programme involving 1-1 mentoring, skills development in CV writing and interview preparation, as well as training to attain Level 2 Work Skills and BTEC qualifications.

Young people then enter a 3-6-month paid placement to gain real world experience, supported by industry mentors.

Miss Macaroon supports 18 to 35 year olds from underserved backgrounds across Birmingham who face barriers to entering the workforce and have been unemployed for more than six months.

The programme integrates on-the-job training at their commercial bakery with off-the-job workshops and training sessions and a holistic package of wellbeing support.

Since establishment in 2011, their programme has supported over 200 young people and 75% of participants transition to employment on programme completion.

Young Brent Foundation supports over 200 black and community-led organisations working with young people in Brent to develop capacity, collaboration and connection and effect positive change.

Right to Succeed is a charity seeking to promote collective solutions for young people by bringing together residents, professionals and decision-makers to co-design a programme that is bespoke to the needs of the local community.

North London Partnership Consortium Limited (NLPC Ltd), is a black-led, not-for-profit organisation committed to the regeneration and renewal of communities by unlocking the potential of local people through accredited training, employability support and enterprise development programmes.

Amber supports young adults aged 18-30 who are facing complex problems and experiencing homelessness towards employment, education and training through 24/7 supported accommodation across four residential centres in Devon, Kent, Surrey, and Wiltshire.

It provides a full-time employability, health and well-being programme, comprised of group-based activities and individual case management. It takes a staged approach to addressing residents’ immediate needs and building their capabilities, and offers opportunities to connect to local communities.

Switch Up uses mentoring techniques along with physical training to engage and  empower Nottingham’s young people to break the cycle of offending and reoffending.

As part of our What Works programme, Switch Up provided a range of mentoring, boxing and employability support over 12 weeks to 102 young people aged 14-24 in Nottinghamshire. The support was aimed at those who experienced a range barriers to employment and were NEET or at risk of becoming NEET.

Sport 4 Life is a West Midlands-based charity. It works with young people aged 11-29, supporting them into sustained education, employment and training through sports programmes, mentoring and structured group-based training activities.

Pentreath Ltd. is a Cornish charity that supports people living with mental health and emotional difficulties to achieve their vocational goals.

Abbey Access delivered a 12-week course offering wrap-around support focussing on construction skills and training to 200 young people aged 16-24 in Lincoln who faced a range of barriers to employment. Barries included criminal convictions, mental health issues and lack of no Level 1 qualifications.

Football Beyond Borders works with young people from areas of socio-economic disadvantage who are passionate about football but disengaged at school, to help them finish school with the skills and grades to make a successful transition into adulthood.

It’s standard programme offers a balanced schedule of weekly two-hour sessions divided between classroom-based learning and football activities, combined with therapeutic interventions, in-school pastoral care, and regular reward excursions during half-term breaks.

Football Beyond Borders’ practitioners are trained to become relatable, consistent and trusted adults in the lives of young people.

Football Beyond Borders has an excellent record of developing trusted relationships with young people in schools from areas of socio-economic disadvantage and experience in using therapeutic mentoring interventions.

This is why it is a delivery partner for the Building Futures programme, providing personalised support to up to 500 young people aged 12 to 15 over a whole academic year during the initial programme phase.

DurhamWorks is a programme designed for individuals aged 16 to 24 living in County Durham who are not already engaged in education, employment, or training. The programme is delivered by a team of dedicated professionals who offer career information, advice, and guidance to support young people in achieving their ambitions and potential.

What they are involved with?

We are partnering with Durham County Council to boost youth employment via its programme partner DurhamWorks.

Drive Forward Foundation supports care-experienced young adults through a package of individualised support designed to help develop the skills and networks they need to find fulfilling employment.

It offers a mix of tailored one-to-one support, intensive employability skills training, in-work mentoring, and opportunities provided through working in partnership with corporate partners, prospective employers and local authorities.

About Cumbria Youth Alliance

Cumbria Youth Alliance provides infrastructure support for organisations working with children, young people and families. They provide direct support in a variety of settings, schools, alternative provision, youth and community settings.

What they are involved with?

The funding they have received will enable Cumbria Youth Alliance to support 150 young people to help them work towards achieving their career aspirations through a programme of employability support activities, including individual tailored plans. Further, access to specialist support around mental health, drug and alcohol addiction, increasing soft skills and vocational training will form part of the overall delivery package.

The Action for Race Equality Infrastructure Organisation Grant will be used to build on existing work to become the “Go To” BAME-led infrastructure organisation for BAME organisations supporting young people in England.

What they are involved with?

Through its Action for Race Equality programme to strengthen the sector and BAME communities, Action for Race Equality will deliver work inc:

– Peer to peer learning workshops along with Action Learning

– Implementing a “Systems Leaders” knowledge transfer programme to share their ‘know how’ with the sector

– Organisational development support; 1:1 consultancy and masterclasses

– Providing and support partnership brokerage

– Deep Diving work with 10 organisations to co-design a potential programme for funders

– Developing a quality framework to ensure consistent, high-quality provision across the BAME-led sector

– Creating a Youth Panel, led by young people to embed the youth voice throughout our programme

– Having a strong comms focus to use effectively for policy influencing and e-learning updates.

1625 Independent People supports young people aged 16-25 who are at risk of becoming homeless or are already homeless through a range of specialist projects and services.

What they are involved with?

1625 Independent People are part of our What Works programme. The have been awarded a grant to supports 156 young people aged 16-24 who are care leavers or homeless/at risk of homelessness. The young people receive 1-2-1 support from ‘Coaches’. The frequency and type of support varies, but is based on a youth version of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, called DNA-V.

15billionep is a charity committed to ‘transforming young futures’ through promoting social mobility and raising aspirations among young people. They work closely with employers, local authorities, European agencies and education institutes to understand the labour market and prepare young people for today’s workplace, boosting their job prospects and the calibre of candidates available to potential employers.

What they are involved with?

Using their grant funding, 15billionebp provided a range of support to 90 young people at local secondary schools to reduce the number of school exclusions. Each school within the London Borough of Newham identified a cohort of young people using the Risk of NEET Indicator (RONI) system and school knowledge of the individuals. The project was delivered to young people from BAME/socio-economically disadvantaged communities who enrolled on the project for two years.
