Summary

This review highlights the challenges faced by young people in rural UK areas, including transport barriers, limited post-16 options, low-quality job opportunities, social isolation, poor digital connectivity and access to services exacerbate wellbeing issues.

While evidence on effective interventions is limited, promising approaches include Wheels to Work (personal transport support), business partnerships for apprenticeships, and nature-based wellbeing programmes.

Further research is needed to explore effective delivery models and address gaps in rural youth provision and policy.
