Youth Futures Foundation responds to the launch of the Investigation into Young People and Work
Dec 16, 25
Commenting on the launch of Alan Milburn’s investigation into young people not earning or learning, Chief Executive, Barry Fletcher said:
“Today’s launch of the Investigation into Young People and Work marks an important step in addressing the stubborn challenge of youth unemployment and inactivity.
"Whilst we have seen recent and much needed Government focus and investment through the Budget to support more young people into work, it is clear more will need to be done with one in eight of our young people not being in education, employment or training (NEET).
"This investigation gives an opportunity to further strengthen our understanding of the scale and nature of the growing youth inactivity challenge – and robust evidence on what works, alongside the lived experiences of young people themselves, will be essential to identifying solutions that open genuine pathways into meaningful work and learning.
"As the What Works Centre for youth employment, we look forward to contributing our research, analysis and learnings to ensure any long-term plan is underpinned by the strongest evidence. We are also particularly pleased to be convening the Youth Guarantee Advisory Panel, alongside Youth Employment UK, to ensure the voices of young people are at the centre of the investigation.
"We encourage others to engage with the investigation and share their insights to support the review in developing the fullest possible understanding of this complex challenge.”
