Youth Futures Foundation welcomes the announcement from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) today launching its Dormant Assets Scheme Strategy. The strategy highlights £132.5m investment from the scheme for the ‘youth’ cause, including new funding to increase disadvantaged young people’s access to enrichment opportunities in the arts, culture, sports and wider youth services aimed at improving wellbeing and employability.

This investment also includes the £15 million Building Futures programme for early NEET (Not in Education, Employment of Training) prevention Youth Futures are delivering.

“Today marks the first exciting expansion of the Dormant Assets Scheme ‘youth’ cause, granting much needed additional financial support for youth services and enrichment activities for young people which have been underfunded in recent years. The £117.5m investment distributed by The National Lottery Community Fund will help to address disparities in access to these opportunities for groups of young people facing marginalisation.

“We are especially proud to be delivering the Building Futures programme, in partnership with Football Beyond Borders, which is supported by £15m of this investment. This evidence-led programme will strengthen understanding of how early intervention, particularly mentoring in educational settings, can better support young people to transition into good work.

“We’re fortunate and proud to be entrusted with Dormant Asset funding, which is uniquely placed to fill gaps and drive systemic change in ways that complement and enhance existing statutory provision. This means continuing our vital work to ensure marginalised young people can secure and thrive in good work, by uncovering what works, driving change in policy and practice, and ensuring young people’s voices remain central to everything we do.

“We look forward to collaborating with The National Lottery Community Fund and continuing to work with our partners across the youth, education and employment sectors to meaningfully support young people’s futures.”
