Economic inactivity urgent problem for the Covid generation

Mar 14, 2023

Our CEO, Barry Fletcher, responds to this month’s ONS job stats:

“The continued increase in economic inactivity for young people not in full-time education is causing urgent problems for the Covid generation. With the consecutive fall in vacancies, and the cost-of-living crisis still taking hold, there are a number of issues preventing 18-24-year-olds from finding, and progressing into, good jobs. And once again, young people from marginalised backgrounds are being hit the hardest.

“Tomorrow’s Spring Budget offers an opportunity for the government to help the adverse effects of the pandemic, and the largest drop in real pay since records began, by providing stability for young people furthest from the job market.”
